Cerro Chato Lagoon

The smaller Cerro Chato Volcano is actually an older brother, living in the shadow of his boisterous younger brother Arenal. It is a truncated volcanic cone rising to 1,140 meters. It has had no registered volcanic activity for the past 3,500 years, about the time when Arenal was just beginning its birth. Just about 3 kilometers from Americas Paradise Center you will find the Cerro Chato Lagoon. During the two hours hiking up to the top, you may see different species of birds, monkeys, sloth, frogs and others. The path to the top has blue signs and it is easy to follow.

GreenLagoon’s Cerro Chato Biological Corridor

ANC53Restoration of the Biological Corridor

GreenLagoon Enterprise has dedicated a great portion of its land to create the Cerro Chato Biological Corridor. The purpose of this program is to restore the Biological Habitat of Multiple members of the present and past fauna and flora in Cerro Chato. Some of these plants and animals are in the brink of extinction now. Some plants and trees are not found here anymore as they were in the past. Many species of animals have migrated out of the original Biological Corridor in Cerro Chato.  To achieve this purpose, GreenLagoon Enterprise has created the TreeLand Farms and the TreeLand Card, which will be sold at $30 each card, to plant and maintain each tree and its area, as well as to map the Reforested and Protected Trees and Plants in the Corridor as well as the wildlife, especially in danger of extinction. Once this purpose is achieved, the land will be Reforested, Re-Built, Conserved, Preserved and Protected.

The Arenal Volcano measures at least 1,633 metres (5,358 ft), It is conically shaped with a crater spanning 140 metres (460 ft). Arenal is geologically considered a young volcano and the age is estimated to be less than 7,000 years. The volcano was dormant for hundreds of years and exhibited a single crater at its summit, with minor fumaroles activity, covered by dense vegetation. In 1968 it erupted unexpectedly, destroying the small town of Tabacón. Due to the eruption three more craters were created on the western flanks but only one of them still exists today.
